About the Author


Richard Jay Hutto served as White House Appointments Secretary to the Carter family and was chairman of the Georgia Council for the Arts. One of the foremost historians of the Gilded Age, he compiled and edited Accepted Fables, the autobiography of Jordan Massee, and wrote Entitled: American Women, Titled Husbands, and the Pursuit of Excess, as well as Crowning Glory: American Wives of Princes and Dukes, and Their Gilded Cage: The Jekyll Island Club Members, and The Kaiser's Confidante: Mary Lee, the First American-Born Princess. His 2010 book, A Peculiar Tribe of People: Murder and Madness in the Heart of Georgia, was adapted for television by Investigation Discovery and featured Hutto as an on-air commentator. He has also appeared on-camera as a historical authority on programs from National Geographic to Glenn Beck Television.

He is a frequent international lecturer and for ten years was an elected member of the City Council of Macon, Georgia.
